The Laphroaig Bartender Competition enters its second round! As part of this year’s Laphroaig Food Pairing campaign, bartenders from all over Austria had the opportunity to create a cocktail with Laphroaig single malt whisky that would pair perfectly with their chosen bar food. To appeal to bartenders across Austria, we sent out personalized inspiration kits with Laphroaig 10 Years miniatures and quality food inspirations such as capers, truffle salami, mango chutney and chocolate. From the almost 40 recipe submissions that followed, five finalists were selected to present their creations at the big live event at the Wrenkhs in Vienna. The jury, consisting of Gerhard Tsai (Tür 7), Karl Wrenkh (Wrenkh) and Martin Fröhlich (Beam Suntory), then crowned the winning cocktail “On Top of Old Smokey”. The accompanying bar food of toasted white bread, topped with prosciutto, capers and Maldon salt, was convincing across the board. The winner received €750 in prize money and a personalized bar apron.
